HAPPY NEW YEAR'S WISHES

Many Happy New Year's wishes to everyone. May your next year be built upon the past, beautiful in the present, and grow brighter into the future.

"The most sacred place dwells within our heart, where dreams are born and secrets sleep, a mystical refuge of darkness and light, fear and conquest, adventure and discovery, challenge and transformation. Our heart speaks for our soul every moment while we are alive. Listen... as the whispering beat repeats: be...gin, be...gin, be...gin. It's really that simple. Just begin... again." - Royce Addington

RAIN INTO THE NIGHT

A light winter rain pats down through the garden.

I love this luxurious faux-fur stole in the deepest noir given to me by Effie's Heart. It is warm and inviting as an embrace about your shoulders. I don it with a satin party dress and fur-lined winter boots.

Blossoms of crepe-paper white stand still against the oncoming downpour.

I take up a candle to bring me light.

Speckles of raindrops glisten upon my fur like the little tears of sugar plum fairies.

The gate and ground are covered in bits of the sky.

In time, this tree will grow lush again. Out of its dormancy will come the fruitful leaves echoed in the rain.

If you are planning a wander through the cold, this stole is ideal. It harkens my mind to the classy parties of my mother and grandmother, and today it made me feel a bit like a grown-up little red riding hood. You will certainly be seeing it shrugged over my shoulders quite often this winter and into spring frosts and ice melts.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

apres-presents by the fireplace
I fall seriously in love with my grandparents ornaments every year... they're the old glass ones done up in silk threads and beads
possibly where my lust for chairs spouts from
this is Christmas in style land

the traditional little ice people that live in this cabin under our tree
blur intended
sealing wax owl wishes you a white christmas
marzipan and topaz all boxed up in gold
ribbons and mittens all laid out for cold

❅ ☃ ❄ ♥ Happy Holidays ♥ ❄ ☃ ❅

INSPIRATION BOARD//INNER SANCTUM SERIES

Living for five years with the California countryside as my backyard was a beloved escape, it filled up a place in my heart very much in need of the quiet solice of eerie and spooky soulful abandon. It brought me to a rekindled feeling of childhood, when all the world was an intriguing place to explore. Ocean fronts were clouded over in solitudinal mystery and the rolling hillsides layered over farmlands held behind their fences and gates huge skeletal shacks of farmhouses empty and waiting to be filled up with stacks of dreams. Long drives far across grassy fields and poorly paved roads gave food for thought while the skies opened up into heavily patted rains to grow the little seedlings I planted there for my goals and desires.
Little did I know then and there, staring up at sunsets and long into the chilled nights with the seemingly endless tent of burning stars blanketed overhead, what I would come to, who I would know, or where those dreams would take me. It's a funny thought that life is this river we are swimming through... knowing we may reach something new at every bend, but unknowing what will come. I should like to think that whatever the water, life knows best, and our little rafts made of paper dreams and cutout stars will stay afloat.

STYLE ADVICE//AT THE PARTY - MINIS AND BLAZERS?

Holiday parties are coming up in a flurry! Deciding what to wear, especially if you are attending multiple soirees on multiple nights, can be a little frustrating. Here's a few tidbits to keep your mind out of a boggle.

I've been asked what to make of minis and jackets... a do or a don't... and is it cool for the holiday party?

My personal hunger for showing some leg and my vicious love for blazers says YES!
It would be really cute, and if done right for the occasion (a.k.a. let's not expose too much to the office co-workers, considering that you see them the rest of the year when you are all - assumedly - sober) can make a classic impression with stylish holiday twist.

Don your short cocktail/party dress (preferably in thick lace... think vintage Chanel embroidery... ooooo!) over tights and strappy heels or ankle booties, and top with a lux-looking velvet blazer. Mmm, velvet... yum. ♥

YOU AND I WERE MEANT TO MEET AS ROOMMATES IN PARIS

This is my dear friend, Meryl.  I love our story.

We both attended the same college; I was a Fine Arts major, she a Liberal Arts major... it was a match made in creative thinkers' heaven.
Though our classes took us to distinctly adjacent buildings to one another everyday, we had never met. This is, until Paris.
The Liberal Arts branch was offering an elective course studying the historical accounts of Americans in The City of Lights. I was so game. Especially considering that I didn't take the trip with my high school French class, horribly worried that my minuscule understanding of the language (at the time) would doom me.
So, off to the sign-up I went with parental units and ridiculous-amounts-of-required-tuition-plus-lodging-per-the-two-units in tow. And that's where I met Meryl. We were assigned to be roommates and hit it off right away. She now recalls that at that meeting my dad made some quirky remark that split the room in two laughing (I don't remember what it was that he said, but take note to heart, my father is an awesomely witty and funny man.)
The next time we would meet again would not be until we were struggling with pulling our baggage up to the row of tufted airport chairs at the Charles De Gaulle. Then we spent five weeks living together along with Michelle, our third roommate, in two rooms of a very French hotel. The first — a single full bed with a pull-down cushioned cot and a tiled bathroom with broken main pipe spewing water out at us, but the most beautiful tall french windows you've ever seen; and the second — an up two levels of inner courtyards with three stairwells and two elevators and-no-my-oversize-vintage-suitcase/house-did-not-have-wheels-on-it with three beds, a rooftop, and the penthouse view of the Eiffel Tower (I loved to watch it sparkle every night before turning in for bedtime) that I would consider the most charming place I have ever called home.
We had a downright proper ball during our time in Paris, drinking in everything we could see around us. Don't fret, there will definitely be an INNER SANCTUM SERIES punctuating my lifetime in one of my favorite cities in the world. I must, it has little bits of my heart scattered all about it in the places I touched — there is a piece at Oscar Wilde's grave, a bit in the cafe with the people we've come to know, tiny shavings in the streets of Montmartre and the Louvre, at Versailles, and les Catacombs and the passages couverts... it will come.

She is always so gracefully impressive in her sense of style.
