TUESDAY LUST: BLAZERS ON MAXIS

This Tuesday I'm crushing on the look of a crisp tailored blazer pulled on top of a long flowing maxi. Be it a maximus in kind of skirt or frock, either way, this is one look that rocks. I'm slowly bulking up my spring and summer digs with light, airy maxis in bright prints and blend-able neutrals. I plan to accessorize with heeled sandals (pumps just look wrong) and geometric collars.
test-drive like this:

looks from left to right:
orange drape tux blazer; missselfridge.com, printed cotton maxi; Roberto Cavalli, no21 blazer; thecorner.com, anemone print maxi; Alexander McQueen, ponte boyfriend blazer; topshop.com, new krystal print maxi dress; Diane Von Furstenberg, yellow tuxedo jacket; Rag & Bone, dahlia print grecian maxi skirt; calypsostbarth.com, wool and silk blend jacket; Prabal Gurung, halter pleat maxi dress; topshop.com.

Lust On!
XOXO,

DECORATING: DESK SERIES PT. 2

THE SALON WALL

Sharing my progress so far (let's call this part deux), the central mass of my decorative office wallspace is put together, and I moved some frames around... but it still needs a little bit more! I just need to figure out how far to build up the top to the ceiling... I don't want to risk going too high and making it look less artsy and too crowded.
clockwise: a hand-cut matte surrounds a childhood photograph taken during one of our summers in Tahoe, artisan menthe paper stippled with bright red birds gets a new lease on life, a coveted wallpaper sample from Anthropologie, pressed ferns from our back porch displayed atop a fabric swatch, an upshot of the Eiffel Tower I took on my first night in the city of lights, another fabric swatch, one of my favorite captures of SJP by Peter Lindbergh, a beautiful painting by artist friend Monika Steiner, a thrifty frame I painted in Martha Stewart's liquid gold and then doodled on with sharpie, and the ever-inspiring vision to me of the word "youth" dripping down a steamed window.
clockwise: a hand-printed metal plate lithograph drawing I did of my twin cousin, word bundle resembling an eye doctor's chart reading "one rarely sees what is right in front of them", a small gilded framed swatch of fabric, a bird's nest print from the Smithsonian, white branched frame gifted to me from our buyer at the company holiday party, a hot tomato orange paint swatch from my redesign, another metallic-painted and sharpie-doodled frame encasing a swatch of crocodile-embossed faux leather, an ink and newsprint artpiece I drew, and two hooks with trees.
my Safavieh Dhurries rug, I drooled over this pattern when I found it! I knew it would coordinate so soundly with the fabric I chose to reupholster my chair in (upper right, DIY to come).
XOXO,
EÀLM

BLACK + NUDE BLOCKED HUES

This is my morning face (...or shall I say mourning?) I must admit, I'm not much of an early riser but it's a habit I'm forcing myself into — the earlier I'm up, the more I feel is accomplished before I even begin my day. That, and the fact that I can't get over how much I adore the rising sun streaming in through the bedroom window at our new place around 7am. (The man hates it, he's more of a cave-dweller in the morning... at least until his eyes open.) I pull the shades and a soft white light pours in, effortlessly filling the vanity in my bathroom hall flanked by mirrors. It's excellent for doing hair and makeup, not that I'm much of a beauty queen when it comes to those things, but hey, nice just the same.
outfit: silk top; funktional, maxi skirt; jigsaw london, wedges; seychelles, coil necklace; tibetan gift shop in santa cruz california, metal rope braided bracelet; express, gemstone cuff bracelet and rings; gifts from loved ones.
this top is so much fun, I like to show off just a hint of skin above the bust (I'll show more when I have a tan), and these little crescents cut out at the trapezius muscles do just that.
I love these special gems from those dear to me.
a coil necklace is great for a closet full of different necklines as it can be contoured to any shape.
these wedges are a dream if you spend more than six hours walking a day! my favorite chicks at therapy are the reason behind this score.

This Tuesday I'm craving a little bit of pastel deliciousness... spring color wardrobe inspiration that's sweet enough to eat! Oh, I miss seeing these in the windows of Paris.

PORCH FLEURS

I am beginning to plant flowers on our little back patio... The first to go in are ranunculus, my second favorite to mums. So far there are fushia, yellow, and white with pink edging. I think I would also like to do some green mums and a very lime green cover.

DECORATING: DESK SERIES PT. 1

So fabulously, boyfriend's and my new place has the perfect spot for my new office! I've started work on a salon wall for the space... I'm going to go out on a limb and risk saying it's looking pretty awesome so far. Oh yeah, and here's some outfit and accessories spots.
a geometric necklace and pops of neon.
on the right is my new vintage Givenchy lucite bangle!
this chair was found in the woods on a shoot. being the crazy person that I am, I took it home and now have vowed to refinish and upholster it. it currently sits at the desk covered in a sheepskin throw and pillows.
chillin' in sequins, Oliver Peoples wacks and my Sam Edelman spiked loafers.
