DIGITAL SUMMER by UBERGIZMO

Wednesday night SF's party people headed out to Digital Summer 2010, hosted by Ubergizmo. The event was held at Temple on Howard (since the venue has the perfect space for a catwalk, and we enjoyed it very much last year) and the fashion show featured designs by Colleen Quen Couture, Jan Warnock, Harputs OWN and Sofie Olgaard, with jewelry provided by Manika. Music was spun by the talented DJ Mrs. Blythe and the Eye-Fi gentlemen were on the scene to shoot studio portraits of all attendees. Overall, a fun evening!

DANCE YOUR ASS OFF

Another night out at Club Rouge SF. The girlies were finally in town from DC and we had to make a night of it with all of our favorite things! First was a drinks and dinner trip to Osha — the best location is on Union Street — where I downed a mix of vodka peach and rum alongside spicy coconut tom kha soup with tofu and sprouts. Yum yum! After rounds L and I had to snap our wall pic out front of the restaurant (it's tradition) before everyone headed out to dancing. We waited in line at Ruby Skye and Slide for two minutes more than we wanted to handle in the wind, so we opted instead to cab it to Rouge and put our VIP status to work. It was fun. I just wish the DJ played more than old school.

A CHISELED YARN

Last year I taught myself to knit. I made a six-foot scarf for boyfriend, three snoods for myself and a cape for puppy. Now that the weather will be turning cold soon again I plan to take up a more aggressive project with my fluffy rolled pieces. Maybe make them heftier, or double knit them... I do have a basket of odds and ends I wanted to apply... Nonetheless my inspiration board during the project will be plastered with images of the sculpturally genius pieces from the mind of Sandra Backlund.

GIVE YOU A LITTLE TASTE

I was reminiscing today about my life in the art department... and when I say life, I say it because we literally lived there — in our studio spaces — and we created from morning till night. It was beautiful. The feeling you had in that room of analogous messy processes of art in all its forms and dirty retrospectives set your soul into a trembling nervousness... We were all there to make ourselves in the dimensional blank space before us and it set us ablaze with some sort of altruistic fire. Whether it was creating art for our art of creation or creating art for art's sake, we did not know. We just wanted to create.

Gold will always be the stronghold. Meticulously calculated golden wares hold tight to the natures of the oncoming seasons. Wear them in reflection of the organic to the industrial... or as I plan to, integrated or spotlighted as part of an eclectic mix.

LONG, HOT, AND A LITTLE LOPSIDED

kimberly ovitz fall 2010

I am drooling over the Fall 2010 collection by Kimberly Ovitz... in a blessed neutral palette that you know I can't say no to, slight nautical striping, leather, and a lot of texture... it's a dream my closet longs for. I'm very much impressed with the way some designers are taking on the trends for Fall and simplifying them to emit their greatest message; "wear your clothes, don't have them wear you." A salute to these looks! Clinkies!

TEST DRIVE: FACE FIX

So now that my skin seems to have finally settled in on its state for the next five years, it's also about time that I start forcing it into acting its age. I'd been on a crusade for the holy grail of fine line and moisture treatments for years, but I believe that now I've actually and finally found it... just the right concoction to correct the effects of skin that's dry as a desert and unusually pale.

START: with a solid two minutes of gently exfoliating with St. Ives Invigorating Scrub.

THEN: apply Rani Red Rose mask and let dry.

NEXT: rinse and refresh with a mineral toner.

LASTLY: massage on a layer of Perricone MD Advanced Firming Activator.

It worked for me! My face was still dewy and fine line free by the next morning!

AUTOPILOTING IN DRIVE

Some pictures from my drive home. Be sure to scroll down for the song that should be accompanying.

This drive is one I've done so often that now sometimes it seems I get from point A to point B completely on autopilot. The realization usually hits me halfway between snap curses at the cars attempting to park where we merge towards the freeway and twenty minutes out from ignition. To counter the wavelike feeling of a lazy nausea I gently finger up the volume on the radio and localize on the best snippets over the air that I can dance to. Well, it's more of a seated dance really.

SOME SCREENAGE TO PLAY FOR THE EXPERIENCE:

LYRICS:
I'm naked
I'm numb

I'm stupid

I'm staying

And if Cupid's got a gun, then he's shootin'
Lights black
Heads bang
You're my drug
We live it
You're drunk, you need it
Real love, I'll give it
So we're bound to linger on
We drink the fatal drop
Then love until we bleed
Then fall apart in parts
You wasted your times
On my heart
You've burned
And if bridges gotta fall, then you'll fall, too
Doors slam
Lights black
You're gone
Come back
Stay gone
Stay clean
I need you to need me
So we're bound to linger on
We drink the fatal drop
Then love until we bleed
Then fall apart in parts
Now we're bound to linger on
We drink the fatal drop
Then love until we bleed
Then fall apart in parts

Bones!! One day I went to the catacombs of Paris. One day I dreamt of an exotic place in the jungle. Now I dream of wearing both around my neck.
